Why Green Tea?
Green tea has received a lot of coverage recently as a possible factor in reducing disease and as an anti-aging supplement.
All varieties of what we commonly call 'tea', Black, Oolong, and GreenTea come from the same plant (Camellia sinensis). The difference is how the tea is processed prior to sale. Green tea, unlike black and oolong tea, is not fermented.. which results in a tea that retains more of its heathful benefits. Green teas include ingredients such as volatile oils, caffiene, vitamins, and minerals, but the main constituents of interest are tea polyphenols, particularly a catechin named epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Polyphenols are strong antioxidants believed to be responsible for much of green teas role in advancing good health. Recent studies have been undertaken to discover the mechanism of green teas role in preventing diseases such as cancer and arthritis, promoting weight loss, and increasing endurance.
The best way to incorporate green tea into your diet is to simply buy a high quality organic tea and drink a cup with meals. Green tea may also be purchased as a supplement in capsule form for the sake of convenience or for those who dislike the taste.
Green Tea may possibly cause adverse reactions with other medications. Consult your health-care provider before consuming green tea or other health supplements.
